Thea Blocksidge

Thea Blocksidge

My full name is…
Thea Charlotte Graham Blocksidge.

But my friends call me...
Mostly Thea, my mum calls me Theebeebee.

I grew up...
Customising my clothing and putting outfits together from my mum and dads wardrobe because I liked their old clothes better.

I express my creativity by...
Dressing, collecting, painting, collage. Making things out of old obsolete materials.

Styling for work...
Is like I'm not working at all, it feels effortless and fun - I love the collaborations that come together and working with people and brands that I admire.

When I style myself…
I am more nonchalant, playful and practical.

Before becoming a mother I was...
Spending more time alone, dreaming of Vida Agnès, doing much of the same though without my little friend.

The most important lesson motherhood has taught me...
More of a constant reminder to move with love, take care, to be present and to enjoy life’s simple pleasures. How important family and community are near and far.

A lesson I will pass down to Vida...
To laugh,
To cry.
Both as cleansing as each other.
I like these words from Donovan
"Happiness runs in a circular motion
Thought is like a little boat upon the sea
Everybody is a part of everything anyway
You can have everything if you let yourself be."

Vida's name came from...
A whole week of watching our baby, Vida Agnès Janye Rogers. Vida, I like the Spanish/Portuguese word. She’s been delighted with life since birth so it really suits her. Agnès, after the filmmaker I admire most whose films are a gift to cinema - I like that the name Agnes is also of Greek origin like my name. Janye, my mums name and spelling because Vida is my mother junior. Rogers, It’s Tommy’s surname and I like it.

I care for others by...
Making time and little gifts.

I care for myself...
Living close to the sea, long walks with my baby, a cold swim and hot bath, making time to be alone.

I have fun...
As often as possible.

I find comfort in...
Our bed that holds our little family — Tommy, Vida and Baci the cat, well made clothing, thoughtful design, natural materials, my friendships, bathing, the sea, the sun.

The meal I crave...
While I was pregnant it was artichokes and the pâté with prunes from Cadeau which is sadly no longer existing.

I am moved by…
Watching my baby grow, authenticity and integrity, Agnès Varda films, photographs, old objects, words, music.

I feel womanly when...
Nude.

My favourite colour is...
It's ever changing, I like stripes.

My favourite childhood memory...
My dad carrying me out into the calm blue sea is so vivid in my memory I would have been only a little older than Vida is now. Long summer holidays sailing our Poppys old sailboats with dad and my sisters.

I am hopeful for...
Making time to make art again and actualise all the ideas floating around in my head.

I am looking forward to...
Our new(old) house being relocated onto our little lot of land by the sea, planting out all around it with my sister Lydia (@cosmos_patch), and having friends and family come to stay all year round.
