Jewaria

Jewaria

My full name is…
Jewaria Gazaele Aznam.

But my friends call me…
Jewaria.

I grew up...
I was born and raised in Amsterdam. A city forever close to my heart.

My cultural background means…
Lots of good food! My father is Moroccan, mother is Vietnamese, stepdad Japanese and a husband who is Indonesian. We have a very mixed family and you can imagine that the food game is on point because of it.

The best part of my day is…
At the moment crocheting. It’s my absolute addiction and I can’t think of anything else. I wake up in the morning crocheting and go to sleep crocheting… I started this new hobby because I wanted some peace of mind and less screen time during the last trimester, but it kind of became a bit too addicting and now I turned into some little grandma who sits at home for hours just doing crochet.

My favourite way to stay inspired is…
Surround myself with amazing people who inspire me!

My style can best be described as…
There’s no in between, it’s either Adam Sandler (80% of the time) or a fashion Asian in full Comme des garçons.

Being pregnant has taught me…
That I really need to listen to my body and take a chill pill when needed.

One of my favourite moments during pregnancy so far has been…
Even though now in the last few weeks it can be quite painful, but for sure the movements. Just feeling her react to my voice and touch is really special. For me it’s still surreal that there’s a little human inside of me. We did an 3D ultrasound to make the pregnancy a bit more tangible for my eldest son and it was really special to see her little face and to see her move and suck her toes and little fingers. Really crazy how much technology improved and how much you can already see now!

What excites me most about motherhood is…
Having little best friends around you all the time.

You will usually find me…
At home with a big cup of tea doing some sort of weird hobby or cleaning. I’m a very domestic and quite boring person. I’m either drinking tea, deep cleaning or crocheting haha!

     Right now I am …
Really fed up with being pregnant! I definitely know for sure now that I’m not good at being pregnant. I’m really good at giving birth but pregnancy is just hard on me! I’ve had HG and pelvic instability with both kids and now I’m just continuously uncomfortable. I can’t wait for the arrival of this little girl and to have a bit more strength back in my body.

 I care for myself…
I’m a big self care person. I nurture my body with good and healthy food and enjoy conscious moments like having a cup of matcha or putting your favourite cream/oil on before you go to sleep. It’s the little things you do every day for yourself that matter.

I find comfort in…
Knowing that I’m loved.

I feel most at home when…
My husband son and two dogs are there. They are my home. It doesn’t matter where I am, if they’re there I’m at home.

My favourite childhood memory...
Playing outside until the street lamps went on.

One thing people might not know about me…
There are a few things people are always surprised about. The fact that I already have a 6 year old son. That I’m tattooed from shoulders to knees. That I love and drive motorbikes and that I’m a muslim.

How I find balance…
Not being too hard on yourself. There’s no perfect balance, especially in motherhood. So one day you might give 80% and the other 20%. Finding that sweet spot is the closest I get to being balanced.

I am hopeful for…
A peaceful and happy home water birth where I’m fully in control of the situation. My daughter is still in breech at the moment and she has about two weeks left to turn around. I wouldn’t say that I’m anxious about it cause I will also accept it when she chooses that, that’s the way she wants to arrive. But I’m very hopeful for my peaceful home birth and I’m praying I will get that!

I am looking forward to…
Seeing my husband being a father and my son a big brother. I can’t wait to snuggle up during the holidays with our little family.
