My full name is…
Mary Caile McCormick.
But my friends call me…
Moo.
I grew up...
Partially on the beaches of Tairāwhiti Gisborne, partially in the Titirangi bush.
The best part of my day is…
Early morning coffee and a book in bed while my partner Barns sleeps beside me (he’s a night owl).
Three words that describe me are…
Laughs A Lot.
My friends, who are endlessly creative and talented.
A place that holds special meaning to me…
My grandparent’s house in Gisborne. It has a big rambling garden, the sound of sheep and beautiful sunsets. It’s a place I can still visit where my memories stretch back the longest.
Preparing for motherhood looks like…
Cooking, washing and napping. Also collecting wisdom and hand-me-downs from those who’ve gone before me.
Pregnancy has taught me…
A huge new respect and appreciation for my body.
I feel empowered when…
Doing something out of my comfort zone.
A dream I hope to achieve in the future...
I’d like to make a short film that’s very close to my heart.
The little things that bring me joy are…
A nice mug, baking bread, cafes, doing a cryptic crossword with Barns.
I care for myself…
By learning to say ‘no’.
I find comfort in…
Familiar daily rhythms, cooking, spending time at home.
I feel most at home when…
I’m with Barns.
My favourite snack…
Avocado on seaweed rice crackers. My sister and I have had a deep obsession with this combination since childhood.
My favourite childhood memory…
Running around the garden in our togs in the rain.
One thing people might not know about me…
I fell on a cookie cutter as a child and had a scar in the shape of a gingerbread man’s foot on my forehead. It’s mostly faded now!
How I find balance…
I’m still learning to balance alone time with social time and those two sides of myself.
I feel womanly when…
Dancing.
I am hopeful for...
The arts. While it’s a hard time to be creative, it’s also so inspiring to see people creating beautiful things to add to the world.
I am looking forward to...
The arrival of my baby!
